Oriented Strand Board, or OSB, is an engineered wood product formed by layering strands (flakes) of wood in specific orientations. In appearance it has a rough and variegated surface with the individual strips (around 2.5 by 15 cm each) lying unevenly across each other in the direction of their grain.

Structural Insulated Panels utilize flat foam and engineered non-veneer Oriented Strand Board (OSB). This means no bulging studs. No twisted lumber. No shrinkage or curvatures due to drying. No cups or warps as found in outdated stick framing. Drywall installers have flat surfaces to work with and do not have to find studs to place fasteners and screws. Cabinets hang on a flat plane without shims or ugly nailing misses. Counter tops can be installed with little or no scribing of the counter to the irregular surface of stud framing. Pictures can be mounted without having to find suitable structure behind the drywall.
